Proverbs 9

 

Pro 9:1  Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

Pro 9:2  She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

 

The true heavenly house of God …

1Pe 2:5  Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Heb 3:6  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

 

The true believers are like “pillars”

Rev 3:12  Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

 

Gal 2:9  And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

 

Jer 51:40  I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

Jer 51:41  How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

 

 

The table that is furnished is Christ …

1Co 10:21  Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Psa 23:5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

 

The foolish woman says ….

Psa 78:19  Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

 

 

 

 

Pro 9:3  She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

Pro 9:4  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

Pro 9:5  Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

 

Joh 6:33  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Joh 6:34  Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

Joh 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

 

1Co 11:26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

 

 

 

Pro 9:6  Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

 

Joh 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Pro 4:11  I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

 

 

Pro 9:7  He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

 

 

Pro 9:8  Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

 

Pro 15:10  Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

Pro 15:12  A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

Amo 5:10  They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

 

Pro 23:9  Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Pro 29:1  He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

 

Pro 13:18  Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Pro 28:23  He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

 

 

Why should we not reprove a scorner?

Heb 6:4  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

Heb 6:5  And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

Heb 6:6  If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

 

Pro 12:1  Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

 

 

Pro 9:9  Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

 

Pro 25:12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

 

“He who has an ear to hear let him hear” -  Mar 4:23  If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

 

Pro 1:5  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Pro 1:6  To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

 

 

 

Pro 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

 

The fear of the LORD is …

Psalms 19:9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

 

Psalms 111:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

 

Proverbs 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

 

Proverbs 8:13  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

 

Proverbs 14:26  In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

 

Proverbs 14:27  The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

 

Proverbs 15:33  The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

 

Isaiah 33:6  And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

 

 

 

 

Pro 9:11  For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

 

A picture of life everlasting …

Pro 10:27  The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

 

Pro 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

Pro 3:2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Psa 23:6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

 

Pro 3:16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

 

Deu 6:1  Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

Deu 6:2  That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

 

 

 

Pro 9:12  If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Pro 24:9  The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Pro 1:22  How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Pro 19:28  An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

Pro 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Psa 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

 

 

 

Pro 9:13  A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

 

Pro 7:10  And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

Pro 7:11  (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

 

Pro 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Isa 17:12  Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

 

 

Pro 9:14  For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

Pro 9:15  To call passengers who go right on their ways:

Pro 9:16  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

 

The foolish (strange) woman is imitating as if she has Wisdom …

Psa 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

 

Just as Wisdom says ”eat of my bread and drink of the wine”

Pro 9:5  Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

 

She continues to mock with her wine (stolen waters) and her bread (bread of deceit) …

 

 

 

Pro 9:17  Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

 

Jer 23:30  Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

 

Pro 20:17  Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

 

 

Pro 9:18  But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Same as the “Strange Woman / Harlot” in Proverbs 7

Pro 7:25  Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

Pro 7:26  For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

Pro 7:27  Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
