Proverbs 22

 

Pro 22:1  A good name [dhh1] is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour [dhh2] rather than silver and gold.

Pro 22:2  The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Pro 22:3  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Pro 22:4  By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Pro 22:5  Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Pro 22:6  Train up a child[dhh3]  in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Pro 22:7  The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Pro 22:8  He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Pro 22:9  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Pro 22:10  Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Pro 22:11  He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Pro 22:12  The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Pro 22:13  The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Pro 22:14  The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

Pro 22:15  Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction [dhh4] shall drive it far from him.

Pro 22:16  He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Pro 22:17  Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

Pro 22:18  For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

Pro 22:19  That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Pro 22:20  Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

Pro 22:21  That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Pro 22:22  Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

Pro 22:23  For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Pro 22:24  Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

Pro 22:25  Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Pro 22:26  Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

Pro 22:27  If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Pro 22:28  Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Pro 22:29  Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Bible Lesson 2 (David) – “I shall not want”

Pro 22:16  He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to (lack) want.

 

Pro 28:27  He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

A contrast:  Those that oppress the poor vs those that give to the poor …

 

The elect (those that give to the spiritually poor) shall not lack … they have all things (Christ)

Jdg 19:19  Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no (lack) want of any thing.

Jdg 19:20  And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy (lack) wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

 

Jdg 18:10  When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no (lack) want of any thing that is in the earth.

 

Psa 23:1  <A Psalm of David.> The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not (lack)want.

 

Psa 34:9  O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no (lack)want to them that fear him.

Psa 34:10  The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not (lack)want any good thing.

 

The elect have all things … they do not lack anything.  “All Things = Christ”

2Pe 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2Pe 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

 

Php 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

 

 

The wicked lack/want …

Pro 21:5  The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to (lack) want.

 

Pro 24:34  So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

 

 

Pro 13:25  The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall (lack) want.

 

Eze 4:16  Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment:

Eze 4:17  That they may want bread and water, and be astonied one with another, and consume away for their iniquity.

 

Virtuous woman – “shall have no need / want”

Pro 31:11  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no (lack) need of spoil.

 

The wicked  - “they lack/want all things”

Jer 44:16  As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

Jer 44:17  But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

Jer 44:18  But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have (lack) wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
