Bible Lesson: (15 minutes)

Just Weight & Just Balance

(The Lord Jesus is the “Just weight”)

Pro 16:11  A just weight<68> and balance are the LORD's: all the weights of the bag are his work.

Pro 16:2  All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

Isa 26:7  The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh<68> the path of the just.

Leviticus 19:35-37

35  Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.

36  Just balances, just weights<68>, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37  Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.

It is interesting that the Hebrew word for “weight” is the same Hebrew word for “stone”

H68  אבן  '  eben

We see that this just weight / stone points to Christ

Isa 28:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone<68>, a tried stone<68>, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18

17  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; (just weight)

18  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Job 31:5-6

5  If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6  Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

The False weight & balance

Pro 11:1  A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight<68> is his delight.

Pro 20:23  Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

Deuteronomy 25:13-16

13  Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights[DH5]  <68>, a great and a small.

14  Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

15  But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight<68>, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

16  For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Example of a false balance & divers weights – the idol makers

Isaiah 46:5  To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

Isaiah 46:6  They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.

Isaiah 46:7  They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

Weightier of the law = judgment, mercy, faith =  just weight

Mat 23:23  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

7  And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead (unjust weight): and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah[DH8] .

11  The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure[DH10] , that the bath may contain the tenth part of a homer, and the ephah the tenth part of a homer[DH11] : the measure thereof shall be after the homer.

6  That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

7  The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
